Michigan was specifically bad behind the arc that night, shooting a miserable 13.6 percent. That was then and this is now. I highly doubt that the Wolverines will struggle so mightily again. Granted, they haven’t been the best team with the three ball, but it is usually at least worth trying from time to time for them. 13.6 percent is atrocious. You are more likely to be fouled while driving for a layup than they were at sinking points from behind the arc that night. The other thing that worked for Minnesota that night was the fact that of those many missed opportunities, the Golden Gophers capitalized by grabbing 43 rebounds. Michigan is -5.5 in this game over Minnesota.
Gophers Could Use Resume Win
Killing possessions is an easy way to limit your opponent’s scoring tally. That stat is doubly important when the opposition is shooting the ball at such a low rate. Michigan shot just 33.9 percent from the floor. However, not all worked out for Minnesota, as the game ended with an L for them. One thing that will haunt them is the fact that they had 16 turnovers in the game. Compare that to michigan’s 6 turnovers and we may have just identified the major contributor for the Golden Gophers losing the game. It’s sure not often that a team grabs 43 rebounds and shuts their opponent to under 20 percent efficiency from beyond the three point line and loses, but impressively, Minnesota did just that.
Wolverines Elite in College Basketball
I think the Michigan Wolverines will continue their colossal rise to the top of the sport with a win against Minnesota at home. Coach Beilein has made the Michigan Wolverines into a perennial powerhouse and a recruiting hotbed for NBA talent. The success they are seeing as of late is by no mistake; the man’s been coaching his tail off and it is finally coming together for him and the Big Blue nation. The Wolverines have been nearly unstoppable with a 23-3 record on the season with Jordan Poole leading the charge as their emotional leader. Ignas Brazdeikis has been a force as well for the big blue army, seemingly stepping right into Moe Wagner’s shoes from a season ago.
Michigan Tops Minnesota
I think any team they face will struggle to keep up with them, and unfortunately, this week that team is the Minnesota Golden Gophers. Minnesota is far from terrible with a record of 17-9 on the season, but that is a far cry from the type of dominance we are seeing from Michigan. I expect things to be back to normal for the Wolverines and they’ll show great improvements since the last meeting between these two rivals. I’ll take the Wolverines to beat up on the Golden Gophers by a score of 75 - 63.
