Betting on the Super Bowl From the State of Maryland

Maryland House Bill No. 989 was introduced on Feb. 9, 2018 and called for the establishment of a task force to "study the implementation of sports gaming in the state." The draft legislation included the allocation of a "sports gaming license" and the ability to accept wagers on sporting events if the bettor is at least 21 years of age. The proposed Maryland legislation failed to get very far.

A November 2020 sports betting ballot measure passed easily, opening the door for legal wagering in the state but now lawmakers will need to work through the regulatory process and which bodies will license online sports betting.  The legal referendum also required a study take place to ensure minorities and women do not face any kind of undue disadvantage from the activity.

For now, Maryland residents will be able to place wagers on the upcoming Super Bowl thanks to BetOnline, which is now entering its 22nd year in business
