Alabama Crimson Tide vs. Virginia Tech Hokies Odds

The first weekend of the 2009 NCAA College Football season provides some great matchups for football betting fans - and betED.com has a great selection of wagers for all the games.  The most sought after perhaps: Alabama Crimson Tide vs. Virginia Tech Hokies odds.

One of the most highly anticipated tilts of Week 1 features two top-10 teams with the No. 5 Alabama Crimson Tide battling the 7th-ranked Virginia Tech Hokies in a neutral-site game at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta (Saturday, 8 pm ET, ABC).

Alabama Crimson Tide vs. Virginia Tech Hokies odds were listed at Alabama -6 ½ heading into Saturday.

Alabama's pillar is not somebody, but something: its defensive front seven, writes Ray Glier of the New York times. The linemen and linebackers in the 3-4 could be as trustworthy as the 2008 Crimson Tide offensive line, which plowed a path for a 12-2 season.

"I want it to be us, just like it was with the offensive line last season," the sophomore linebacker Dont'a Hightower said. "We have the seniors and the experience."

The Crimson Tide, 12-2 SU last season, fell to Florida in the 2008 SEC championship game and then to Utah in the Sugar Bowl.

The Hokies, meanwhile, won the ACC title in 2008 and are again favored to win the championship.

The teams have not met since 1998.

Elsewhere, the No. 13 Georgia Bulldogs take on the 9th-ranked Oklahoma State Cowboys (3:30 pm ET, ABC).

The Cowboys are a 4.5-point favorite and the over/under is 61.5 at betED.com.

Georgia won 35-14 the last time the teams met on Sept. 1, 2007 as 6-point home favorites.

Also Saturday, the 20th-ranked BYU Cougars face the daunting task of knocking off the No. 3 Oklahoma Sooners in a neutral-site matchup in Arlington (7 pm ET, ESPN).

Oklahoma is a huge favorite at -22.5.

BYU boasts a highly-touted quarterback in Max Hall and an explosive offense - but Oklahoma has Heisman-winner Sam Bradford leading its offense.

BYU has gone 20-3 SU over its past 23 but just 1-8 ATS in its past nine.

On Monday, an all-Florida battle pits the Miami-Florida Seminoles against the No. 18 Florida State Hurricanes in Tallahassee (8 pm ET, ESPN).

Last season, Florida State won in a shootout, 41-39.

The Seminoles are 6.5-point favorites.
