While players in the state are going to be taxed to the hilt, the convenience factor and overall ambiance are sure to attract large numbers in both locales.  36% is what players will ulimately have to shell out compared to 6.7% in Nevada and 0% with the offshores.

Philadelphia's Sugarhouse Casino sportsbook took its first bet right around 2 pm, one bet was a $100 on the Rams to cover an 11.5-point spread against the Eagles and the other a $100 on the Eagles to cover the same 11.5-point spread against the Rams.  One of these will be a winner.

Both the Rivers Casino sportsbook in Pittsburgh and Philadelphia's Sugarhouse will only be open for two days worth of testing (Thursday and Friday December 13 and 14).

“This city is very special and unique when it comes to sports and the fandom surrounding sports in this town,” said general manager Cheryl Duhon, who worked in casinos all across the country before joining the SugarHouse in late May. “We’re honored to be the first in Philly to get this launched. Everyone has been chomping at the bit to get this going.”

A date for an official opening has yet to be established, but stay tuned.
