New Online Poker Tournament Payout Record Set

Over a 30 day period, ten online poker tournaments paid a whopping total $217,803,107 in guaranteed prize pools.

CalvinAyre.com notes:

The figure greater surpasses the previous high of $140 million that was offered by the sites this past spring. There were a total of 1,590 tournaments by the major online operators, all of which contributed to expanding the wallets of a tens of thousands of players.

$177.5 million was distributed across the Net with an additional €34.7 million ($40.3 million) offered up throughout segregated European markets.

Amazingly, this record was set at a time when Denial of Service (DoS) attacks have crippled these tournaments at times. None of the major online poker sites, including PokerStars, Americas Cardroom, PartPoker and, more recently, 888 Poker, have been immune to these attacks.
