The Mirror has posted photos of a roulette dealer who nearly lost his life after being stabbed by a gambler as others watched in horror.

David Downes was left with a 'five-inch-deep' wound near his heart after being attacked while working in London’s Empire Casino.

The attack occurred Monday night.  Kien Nguyen, 34, from East London, plunged a knife into Downes.  A motive has yet to be revealed, however, police were quick to note the incident was not terrorist-related.

The membrane of Downes heart had been grazed, his diaphragm had been punctuated and he had been to theatre.

Downes had been in critical condition but is now conscious and submitted pictures of himself in the hospital.

"A chest drain has removed one litre of blood from around my lungs," wrote David.

“I have been in theatre and have now moved to a stable but poorly condition,” he added. “I have been informed that I was lucky, two more millimeters to the left and I wouldn’t be here.”

The perpetrator has now been arrested and charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of an offensive weapon.
