WILL ANY OF THESE THREE STATES WELCOME SPORTS BETTING IN THE NEAR FUTURE?

Gamblers in Montana will not be able to bet on the NFL via the Internet with state-based companies, but, should soon be able to do so at certain desigated establishments statewide thanks to newly amended legislation.

When Congress passed the law in 1992 banning sports betting in all states, Montana was one of four states that were grandfathered in with its existing law allowing pool betting in sports.

Such pooling allows players to bet against and settle with each other rather than betting against the house.

The state legislature failed to act on Vegas-style sports betting for this year.

Likewise, no action was taken in the Idaho or Wyoming legislatures.

"Do we want our policy in Idaho to be changed? Do we want to redefine the definition of gambling in our constitution to say it doesn't prohibit betting on sports?," said Dustin Manwaring, Idaho State Representative for District 29, immedately following the Supreme Court ruling.

"Wyoming has looked at that and Wyoming says that it doesn't allow gambling but there's bingo, there's poll tabs, there's historic horse racing, there's friendly card games there's lots of gambling that happens in Wyoming,” State Senator Drew Perkins of Natrona County said.
