Online Gambling Ring Tied to Mansion Destroyed

The Police Department of High-Tech Crime Prevention (C50) under the Ministry of Public Security in Vietnam arrested Nguyễn Như Hoàng – a member of an online gambling ring via the website named M88.com, in HCM City on Saturday.

On Sunday, many other members of the ring were also arrested.

Under initial investigation, thousands of gamblers in Việt Nam bet via the website that was hosted in the Philippines. It is estimated that gamblers poured VNĐ2 trillion (US$87.1 million) into the website since 2015.

That website remained up as of Sunday afternoon with heavy promotion of the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

It is owned by Mansion (Gibraltar) Limited, one of the largest betting firms in the world.
