Delaware Becomes First State to Offer Legalized Sports Betting Following Ruling

David Purdum broke the news Thursday that Delaware, living up to its nickname as The First State, will begin offering Las Vegas-style sports betting at its three casinos this coming Tuesday (June 5), becoming the first state to open for business since the United States Supreme Court struck down the federal ban on state-sponsored sports gambling three weeks ago.

Delaware Park, Dover Downs Hotel & Casino and Harrington Raceway & Casino are the three properties that will begin offering sports betting on single-game bets just in time for the FIFA World Cup and a good chunk of the NBA Finals.

Delaware did have a bit of an advantage over other states, as they received an exemption from Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act of 1992 (PASPA), but were limited to parlay bets on NFL games only.
