New York Jets NFL Odds 2009

The New York Jets NFL odds for 2009 are not as bad as one might think.

New coach Rex Ryan was the man behind the Baltimore Ravens air tight defense and we should see an immediate impact here.

According to Pro Football Weekly, Ryan has already drawn comparisons between some Jets' players and his former pupils in Baltimore, likening Vernon Gholston to a young Terrell Suggs, David Harris to Ray Lewis and Kerry Rhodes to Ed Reed.

The problem with the Jets will be at the quarterback position where three players are vying for that spot.

Kellen Clemens looked to get the nod early but pre-season practice might be an indication of the unpredictability in this position as he threw for three interceptions in three different practices.

Outside of the quarterback position, only the receiving unit looks to give the Jets problems on offense.  Of course that spells some serious problems with Jerricho Cotchery the only established receiver on the squad.  Who will emerge as the number two pass catcher remains anyone's guess at the time of publication.

But when we look at the New York Jets NFL odds, it is important to note that this is a team that has managed 9 wins or more in three of the last five seasons.  A new head coach, especially one of Rex Ryan's caliber, can make all the difference in the world.

We're not saying the Jets are going to the Super Bowl, but there are possible holes in New England this year that make the Jets odds of winning the 2009 AFC East enticing with a payout of $800 for every $100 bet at Sports Interaction.

Perhaps the quarterback situation gets resolved early on.  There are basically three individuals competing for the starting position.  The odds that one will emerge solid are pretty good.  Mark Sanchez is known for his strong arm and an uncanny ability to connect with receivers.  Erik Ainge is another option, though a long shot.

The Jets defense is what everyone will be watching when it comes to dramatic improvements.

It should be noted that Sports Interaction has made the New York Jets a huge favorite to win OVER 7 regular season games.  In other words, the oddsmakers have confidence in the Jets playing above .800 in 2009.
