Arrested Gambino Crime Family Members Were Operating Illegal Sports Betting Ring

Seven individuals were taken into custody Tuesday morning, charged with loansharking, drug dealing and illegal gambling.

Federal agents arrested Frank “Frankie Boy” Salerno, 43, of Whitestone, an alleged Bonanno crime family soldier, and two alleged Gambino Crime Family associates Thomas Anzalone, 44, of Ozone Park and Alessandro “Sandro” Damelio, 49, of Whitestone.

They were arrested along with Long Island residents John “Johnny Boy” Ambrosio, 74, and Anthony Rodolico, 46; the Huntington residents were charged along with 67-year-old Anthony Saladino and 26-year-old Joseph Durso, both of Glen Cove.

Most of the suspects are facing up to 20 years in prison.

Suffolk County police assisted federal authorities with investigators wiretapping phone conversations.

The illegal gambling operations included poker and electronic gaming machines as well as an illegal sports betting business run by Damelio, Durso, Salemo and Saladino.

Each of the men, in addition to Anzalone, were also accused of trafficking in wholesale quantities of cocaine, marijuana and Xanax.
