One of the individuals named for his involvement in an online poker ponzi scheme could become the 2017 Poker Player of the Year.

Chris Ferguson was one of two men named as having a controlling interest in Full Tilt Poker in 2011.  That online poker room was accused of being an elaborate ponzi scheme by the US Government.  Ferguson and his cohort, Howard Lederer, were never charged.  To his credit, while not entirely forgiven by the poker community, Lederer did eventually apologize.  Ferguson has never acknowledged his role in the scheme.

He has been on a roll of late and, as such, now holds the POY lead with 1046 points.

DR Congo has 1 point and likely needs a win to have a realistic shot at advancing as a third-place team. Uzbekistan has 0 points and must win to stay alive. A draw probably eliminates Uzbekistan and likely does very little for DR Congo.
