4 College Basketball Coaches Arrested: Not Likely to Affect Championship Odds

10 individuals were arrested Tuesday, including four NCAA College Basketball coaches, as part of an investigation into bribery involving recruitment efforts.  The teams affected include one that is among the favorites to win the 2018 NCAA College Basketball Championship, the Arizona Wildcats.

None of those taken into custody were head coaches and a shift in each team’s odds to win the NCAA Championship were unlikely Tuesday.

Among those arrested were Lamont Evans, an associate coach of Oklahoma State University, Chuck Person, an associate coach of Auburn University, Emanuel "Book" Richardson, an assistant coach of the University of Arizona, and Tony Bland, an associate coach of the University of Southern California.

The probe has revealed numerous instances of bribes paid to assistant and associate basketball coaches to exert influence over student athletes, according to documents filed Monday in U.S. District Court in Manhattan. The papers were unsealed on Tuesday.

Arizona had the second shortest odds of winning the 2018 NCAA Men’s College Basketball Championship at 10/1 behind Duke.  USC also had short odds at 30/1.
