Despite the addition of Terrell Owens, the Buffalo Bills odds to win the 2010 Super Bowl were +4500 at SBG Global. The payout would be $4500 for every $100 bet should they walk away the champions.
Likewise, the Bills are a +1000 long shot to win the AFC East, the least likely team in that division to do so. Obviously, the Patriots are big favorites (-600 to be precise), but they were favorites last year and failed to make the post season following quarterback Tom Brady's injury. One would have to presume he's fully healed and will play at his pre-injury level. Then again, we probably shouldn't PRESUME anything when it comes to the NFL.
So are we missing something here at Gambling911.com? Are the Buffalo Bills expected to be THAT bad?
Well, the quarterback situation is still iffy...as is the addition of Owens by some accounts.
Tom Curran of NBC Sports called Owens signing "one of the 10 worst moves made during this off season".
"How can adding a guy who's almost guaranteed to get you 75 catches, 1,200 yards and a dozen touchdowns be a bad thing? Because Terrell Owens' individual success comes at a team-wide cost.
"He's a quarterback killer as Jeff Garcia, Donovan McNabb and Tony Romo can attest. He's a me-first player as his gesticulations, histrionics and thumb-sucking when other players get the ball have proven. He will submarine his coach's authority. Or try to.
"And he will use the Buffalo Bills as the vehicle to promote what's really important to him: T.O.
"But the Buffalo Bills - trying to avoid going 7-9 for a fourth straight season - know that no postseason likely means their time is up. So they made a deal with the football devil that's known as T.O. Aside from their self-respect, what else did they have to lose?"
For the record, Athlon Sports has The Jets finishing dead last in 2009 after the Bills.
Jake Eman of ProFootball-Fans.com writes of the Bills new offense:
"The Buffalo Bills now have a crew of legitimate weapons to help Trent Edwards. The club also plans on using a more fast paced offensive attack, featuring a lot of no huddle action. Questions about premier running back Marshawn Lynch's health and durability linger, and the Bills brought in Dominic Rhodes to be a stop gap solution. If Terrell Owens and Lee Evans can get along and share the ball, they could each help each other out while opening up room for the ground game to get going. The potential is there and the pieces are in place, but whether or not everyone executes will decide the team's 2009 fate."
We say that the Bills have a shot at surprising a few folks this season though it is difficult at this juncture to think they will win the 2010 Super Bowl.
Still, the promise of a $4500 pay day or a $1000 pay day for a more probable (albeit far out) scenario of the Bills winning the AFC Division for those who think Owens will have a positive impact on this team makes for an enticing bet.
