Carolina Panthers 2017 Season Betting Preview

Julius Peppers, the Panthers all-time sack leader is a huge reacquisition that should jump start this Carolina team that stumbled a bit last season following their shock Super Bowl appearance.  Rookie RB Christian McCaffrey will also help in this process.

LB Shaq Thompson looks like he is going to have a breakout season.

Thompson is expected to see increased reps on defense this season, Joseph Person of The Charlotte Observer reports.

The biggest off season story was Cam Newton’s surgery.  Head coach coach Ron Rivera, when asked, said Newton probably won’t be at 100 percent by camp but his recovery is on track thus far.

“He and the running backs and tight ends and receivers went up to Baltimore to do their getaway and work out for a couple days, and they threw it around. And I know he’s been throwing it. I’m not sure how much he’s gonna throw. He’s talking to the trainers about what that should be. I’m just pleased that there’s an opportunity for him to start off and start off on the right foot.”

A good team surrounds Newton.  Only question that remains: Can he capitalize on this?

To be clear, the Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy is pretty certain to land in Minnesota.  But what if the New England Patriots shock us and pick McCarthy at Number 3 before the Vikings get their opportunity at No. 5?
