36-year-old troubled AFL player Brendan Fevola opened up on his late-career ordeal off the field on FOX FM Friday morning, apologising to Lions coach Michael Voss for the mess he made.

“He took a chance on me up in Brisbane and gave me a lifeline when the Blues said ‘see you later’,” he said.

“He took me up there — and I didn’t really go well.

“So I got the ‘lemonade and sars’ from Brisbane and then Vossy ended up getting sacked — probably because he hired me.

“I let him down. I let him and Brisbane down, so I’m sorry.”

The Age’s Chris McAuliffe once described Fevola as a “trainwreck” as he descended into a dark abyss of gambling addiction.  Fevola would later admit to gambling away millions of dollars.

Last week, Fevola had appeared on the Fox AM morning shoe drinking milk from a shoe.

Fevola harkened back on one of his lowest points while struggling with gambling addiction.

“I was in Queensland and it was a Wednesday afternoon and I had a bookie so I had $2000 credit in my account and I was having a really good day,” Fevola said.

“By 3am the next morning I was betting at Hong Kong, not knowing anything about the horses, just having a little bit of fun.

“I ended that morning $363,000 in front, told (his wife) Alex. She said, ‘This is amazing, can you get it out?’

“So I rang the bookie the next day to try and get it out but when you’ve got a bookie you can’t get it out until the Monday. So Sunday night I was 20 (thousand) down. So I lost $360,000 in three days. That’s my biggest loss.”
