BC Lions Huge Odds Shift to Win 2017 CFL West: Betting Preview

The British Columbia Lions have gone from a 33/1 odds long shot to 3/1 near favorite to win the CFL West division in 2017.

This is representative of a 43% shift in the odds.

The Calgary Stampeders were still favorits at 2/1 with the Edmonton Eskimos having shorter odds than the Lions at 11/4.

Lowell Ullrich of TSN:

A statistical look at the area of greatest change this year would suggest the Lions felt they needed to completely tear apart their defence. Defensive coordinator Mark Washington is being asked to replace half his starting unit and any rational analysis would provide no clues whatsoever why such a drastic change is about to take place.

Last year's starters - Bryant Turner and Mich'ael Brooks – are back, with Frank Alexander joining after a three-year stint with the Carolina Panthers, a team that two years ago landed in the Super Bowl.

B.C may have had a share of the lead in sacks last year but not always did they get pressure with the front four, making improvement an off-season priority, Ullrich notes.
