As always there are advantages to early betting on which team will win a Super Bowl nine months in advance of the big game as well as there are disadvantages.
The advantages are better prices on teams that are not expected to perform well that may end up improving dramatically, whether it be through off season trades or signs of solid play during pre-season practice. Teams may start off the season with a bang, whereby their Super Bowl future prices drop dramatically.
The disadvantages of course are lack of control for a long period of time. We witnessed this a few years back when the Patriots were early favorites to win the next Super Bowl only to lose their star quarterback, Tom Brady, at the start of the season.
Speaking of the reigning Super Bowl champion Patriots, they look to be the team to beat in 2017. If you were to lock the Patriots odds in as of this date (May 23), the payout would be $310 on a $100 bet.
No matter what, the it’s always smart to lock in early prices on a team winning their respective division or the OVER/UNDER total number of wins during the regular season in order to get the best value.
