Jason Day Odds to Win 2017 Players Championship Not Good: No Back-to-Back Wins

The reigning Players Championship champ, Jason Day, were coming in at 17-1 odds.  They are likely a lot longer when one considers there has never been a back-to-back winner of the Players Championship in its 44-year history.

“Maybe it’s one of those anomalies,” Adam Scott suggested Tuesday.

GolfWeek offered some theories as to why back-to-back winners are nonexistent in the Players Championship.

The course as an equalizer and the major depth of the field.  This tournament features one of the deepest fields in fact.

“Length isn’t a huge factor here,” said Scott, who won the event in 2004. “It’s not a huge advantage. Of course it is if you hit is dead straight down the middle, but there’s a lot of fairway runouts and a few doglegs and things like that that bring the long hitters back to play from the same area as the other guys. So you’re all kind of playing from the same spot, and that leaves it open for anyone.”
