Tapwrit Early Odds to Win the 2017 Kentucky Derby

Tapwrit had early odds of 18-1 to win the 2017 Kentucky Derby.  It appeared as if he will be taking part in the big race as of Tuesday evening. Tons of inquiries were coming in on Tapwrit Tuesday night.

Tapwrit stumbled a bit in his last race, finishing 5th at the Blue Grass Stakes, having won the Tampa Bay Derby before that.  He finished 1st in two previous races and 2nd in another before the Tampa Bay Derby.

Heading into the Blue Grass, Tapwrit was being billed as a true star.

Tapwrit finished 10th in his debut and those familiar with the high priced youngster chalked that one up to a case of nausea.

"I think the general consensus that day was a severe case of nausea to be honest," part owner Aron Wellman of Eclipse Thoroughbreds suggested ahead of the Blue Grass. "We had realistic expectations in terms of knowing that he probably wasn't the type of horse that was going to fire first time out. But to say that he would show as little as he did that day, I would be lying if I said we expected that—nor would we have ever run him had we expected that."

Trainer extraordinaire Todd Pletcher will be running Tapwrit in this year’s Derby.  Amazingly, Pletcher only has a single Kentucky Derby win under his belt.

He’s also running Always Dreaming, which appears to be getting the top priority of his two likely entries.
