Professional Gambler Faces Domestic Abuse Charges

A professional gambler who just days ago plead guilty to providing casinos with a false social security number appeared in court Friday on charges of domestic abuse.

David Nakama Oancea (AKA Vegas Dave) is accused of throwing a woman to the ground last July 10 in an undisclosed location, according to a criminal complain.

Justice of the Peace Melanie Tobiasson set a June 20 trial date.

“In domestic cases there’s often two sides to the story that we’re looking forward to come out when we get to court,” David Chesnoff, another of Oancea’s lawyers, said after the hearing.

Oancea  is already in hot water for admitting to providing a different social security number to place nine bets in 2015 and 2016.

Because the Bank Secrecy Act considers casinos financial institutions that are required to report transactions of $10,000 or more by filing a currency transaction, Oancea’s actions soon came to light.

He is now facing 18 counts of Social Security misuse and causing false reports.  Each of these counts carries a maximum five-year prison term.

Oancea is also being ordered to forfeit $1 million.
