Classic Empire Odds to Win the Kentucky Derby Following Arkansas Derby Win

Classic Empire has won the 2017 Arkansas Derby as the favorite at 8/5 odds. Classic Empire was listed with early 8-1 odds of winning the 2017 Kentucky Derby.

This horse had been suffering through a foot abscess while finishing third in his last race prior to the injury.

“I’ve never once counted him out,” trainer Mark Casse said heading into this race. “I know a lot of people have. I feel that ability-wise, he is the most talented horse out there right now.”

He had previously won the Breeders' Futurity Stakes and Breeders' Cup Juvenile.  Classic Empire was also named the American Champion Two-Year-Old Male Horse of 2016.

He is perhaps best known as the sire of Triple Crown winner American Pharoah.
