Just days after taking to Facebook to express his discontent with the state of affairs at PokerStars, the world’s largest online poker site, pro Bryn Kenney says he plans to boycott future Stars live events to “show them they can’t do whatever they want and have people still showing up.”
Speaking to CardPlayer.com this week, Kenney says the issues at PokerStars started when Amaya took over the company. Since that time, Stars has routinely cut back on rewards programs that tended to favor pros.
“What Amaya has done is pretty much push away the pros and say, ‘We don’t care about you, you guys will play anyway.’ But if they don’t care about the pros, why are they still allowing things like HUD’s and programs that are doing calculations for people in game,” Kenney asks.
“If their goal is really to drive the game away from being dominated by pros, they need to take those tools away. An amateur essentially has no chance to win. You are playing against the best in the world and they are using programs to help them beat you even more than they would on their own.”
Kenney appeared more outraged two weeks ago when he posted this on his personal Facebook page:
“So of course nobody is happy with anything pokerstars is doing. Not only do they cut all costs now and give nothing to the players but they dont even honor their agreeements. They have said that in the 10k+ tournaments it will pay only 15% of the field and in a small 10k today they show a payout sheet that pays on average 20% of the field. I think they think everyone is stupid but what they dont understand with their high rake and terrible service soon they wont have an event at all outside of barcelona. Sad days for poker tournaments, good thing other tours are adding some nice tournaments because they all see how bad pokerstars is fucking up.”
When asked if he sees the possibility of PokerStars changing course in a more positive direction, Kenney responded, “A friend of mine who works for PokerStars actually set up a meeting in Monaco with the people who can make decisions. So, maybe they are open to listening. Maybe now they have to listen, because it’s gotten to the point that they’ve pushed everybody into a corner. But until that happens I don’t believe they are really listening.”
