William Hill, PinnacleSports, Paddy Power and Bet365 were among the several online bookmakers abandoning the Polish market as a result.  Most books will cease operating their by April 1.

The tax increase was expected to favor state-owned firm Totalizator Sportowy.

Remote Internet gambling operators like MyBookie out of Costa Rica were still believed to continue accepting players from Poland but with more limited options compared to their European counterparts.
