Police Officer Guns Down Knife Wielding Assailant at Casino

State police in Westlake, LA continued to investigate a shooting at a casino involving a man who brandished a knife early Monday morning.

Police Chief Chris Wilrye said his department received a call at 4:03 am about a man causing a disturbance at the casino.  After refusing to cooperate with police, Wilrye said that the subject was shot by an officer.

Sgt. James Anderson confirmed Monday that the state police are investigating the matter and that the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office has been assisting them.

"Westlake Police responded to a report of a man brandishing a knife in a parking lot. They arrived on the scene and confronted the subject. The subject had the knife in his possession, was shot and Louisiana State Police is investigating," said Sgt. James Anderson, Louisiana State Police Troop D spokesman.

The unidentified assailant is said to be recovering from the gunshot wound following surgery.  His injuries are not life-threatening.
