Oklahoma State Backdoor Cover Stuns Bettors: Pays Off for Books
  • Wolverines up four with 3.7 seconds left, what could possibly go wrong?
  • Oklahoma State’s Jawun Evans hits three-pointer and time runs out
  • Michigan wins by one point but the spread was Wolverines -2.5 so do the math
  • Vegas sportsbook says money was 4-1 on Michigan

One of the biggest shockers in this year’s March Madness came Friday with the Michigan Wolverines winning but sports bettors were left stunned after the Oklahoma State Cowboys managed a final second cover.

The Wolverines hit 11 of 15 second-half 3-pointers, scored 1.58 points per possession over the final 20 minutes and D.J. Wilson ensured the victory by making both his free throws with only 3.7 seconds left and four points ahead.

That’s when Oklahoma State’s Jawun Evans took off down the court and managed to nail a 28-footer to make, resulting in the 92-91 victory.

The problem for bettors is that the line on this game was -2.5.  Michigan failed to cover.

For the sportsbooks, that backdoor cover by Oklahoma State proved to be a positive.

“That three was a day-changer for us,” Jay Rood, VP of race and sports at MGM Resorts International, told Yahoo Sports. “We would have been pushing the rock uphill all day if he does not make that 3.”

“Ticket count was 3-1 in favor of Michigan,” Rood said. “The money was 4-1 on Michigan. BIG game for us.”
