Mob Boss Sentenced in Online Gambling Case: Once Threatened to Shoot Reporter
  • Nicola Femia was sentenced to a lengthy 26 year sentence for his role in running the illegal online gambling biz
  • Femia was already serving time in prison for operating an online poker network
  • Journalist who broke the story says his life was threatened by mobster

Italian mob boss Nicola Femia has been sentenced to 26 years for his role in an illegal online gambling ring that included a Web casino and poker room.

Femia, 56, was already serving time after originally being arrested back in 2013.  He was among 29 individuals connected to the operation.

The ring reportedly rigged some 1500 slot machines in Italy.

The online gambling business was hosted out of the United Kingdom and Romania and was thought to have taken in some $65 million.

Fernia was ultimately tied to the Ndrangheta mafia.  The reporter who broke this story says his life was threatened by the mob boss, saying he would “shoot his mouth off” if he didn’t stop writing about the operation.

Other members of Fernia’s family, including a son and sister, will also be serving a more reduced prison sentence.
