Wichita Witch Hunt? More Names Surface in Poker, Casino Probe

Two other Wichita, Kansas men’s names have been revealed as part of a US Justice Department probe where information thus far has been scarce.

Wichita businessman and professional poker player, Brandon Steven, confirmed to the Wichita Eagle earlier this week that he is the subject of a federal inquiry related to high stakes poker and his attempt to open a state casino.

The US Justice Department intercepted communications between Steven and others, including Kansas Governor Sam Brownback.

The recipient of the latest three letters from the Justice Department served as notification that calls between this person and Steven, 43, were intercepted along with calls with the two other men: Danny Chapman, 66; and Daven Flax, 45.

Specifically these calls were cited in the letter:

▪ Between April 15, 2015, and June 13, 2015, with Flax

▪ Between May 14, 2015, and June 13, 2015, with Steven

▪ Between July 24, 2015, and Aug. 22, 2015, with Chapman

It has since been revealed that officers searched the home of Chapman last week, removing several items including a motorcycle. Chapman is believed to have served probation for gambling on college and professional sports in 1985.

The federal government also has intercepted phone calls made by Sedgwick County Commissioner and former state legislature Michael O’Donnell.
