Sports Interaction betting analyst Frank Doyle isn't convinced about interleague games, but that's not stopping him making his weekend picks. Interleague baseball game betting must go on.
This weekend is an interleague weekend in the Major Leagues. Call me old-fashioned, but I think the interleague games suck. They're just not natural. It's like when Batman means Superman - it must have looked like a good idea on paper but it reality there is no link between Gotham and Metropolis.
It's not right having a National League team in an American League park before October. If Jimmy Rollins wants to see the Yankees, let him buy a ticket, a beer and a ‘dog, same as everybody else.
Speaking of whom, the Phillies visit to the new Yankee stadium is the marquee matchup of this weekend's series. For all his flaws - and they are many - Alex Rodriquez is some baseball player, and his return to the colors has seen the Yankees start stringing the wins together, something they were patently not doing while A-Rod was out of the lineup.
The matchup on Friday offers a chance of a bargain bet. Philly starts Brett Myers, 3-2, 4.50 ERA, against one of the three men for whom the Yankees paid an awful lot of money in the winter, AJ Burnett. Burnett is 2-1 with a 5.02 ERA, but the stats don't always tell a tale.
Although Burnett is struggling now, he was the only quality the Yankees had on the hill at the start of the season and that's bound to come back soon. My dollar says it'll come back on Friday, when he'll still be a tempting price with Sports Interaction.
The other really attractive matchup is also between two Eastern teams, when the National League New York Mets visit the American League Boston Red Sox. Johan Santana is on the hill Friday for the Mets - Santana is pitching well with an impressive 5-2, 1.36 ERA record but his team-mates don't always back him up.
The Red Sox have the best home record in baseball at the time of writing, and I don't see them taking a lump on Friday night when Daisuke Matsuzaka, 0-1, 12.79 ERA, comes back from the disabled list. Boston at home is the pick with Sports Interaction.
Finally, the third pick of the day is in Atlanta, where I like Roy Halladay, 8-1, 2.78 ERA, of Toronto to mow down the Braves' Kenshin Kawakami, 2-5, 5.73 ERA. Kawakami won over a hundred games in Japan over eleven years but this is his rookie season in the States and he's 33 years old.
By contrast, Halladay's eight wins is the best record in baseball and he's a big part of the reason the Blue Jays top the AL East. Toronto won't be a big price with Sports Interaction on Friday, but the Jays are still the value bet here.
