A waiter who owed significant gambling debts was sentenced to six years, seven months in prison following a brazen home invasion.  The home he targeted was that of his boss.  Once inside, he threatened the lives of his boss’ wife and two small children.

During trial it was revealed that Ali Akguc, a native of Turkey, carried out the December 2015 raid in Drumnadrochit, near Loch Ness, Scotland.

The youngsters feared they were going to die after the 36-year-old threatened to shoot them, testimony revealed.

He stole more than £1400 and fled from the property but was later caught after his car had been positively identified parked near the home.

During his trial, the woman told the court: "When I was through getting the money, I could hear one of the children shouting at the man 'do not kill me'."

After being given the money he told her: "Do not scream or I will come back and shoot you."

Akguc is expected to be deported following his time behind bars.
