A Nevada man said to be part of a New Jersey mob family for which HBO’s “The Sopranos” was modeled after has admitted to plotting the death of an organized crime rival.

Federal prosecutors say Charles Stango, a member of the DeCavalcante crime family, pleaded guilty last Wednesday in a plot to kill a man identified only as “Victim 1” in court records.

The Tom’s River Patch in New Jersey reported:

Based on tape-recorded evidence uncovered during the investigation, Stango believed that Victim 1 had falsely held himself out to be a “made man” within the family structure. Stango refused to recognize Victim 1’s alleged new status. Stango also believed that Victim 1 had intentionally insulted a high-ranking family member, which Stango felt deserved the ultimate punishment.

The 72-year-old Henderson, NJ man is also accused of running a prostitution ring with his son in Tom’s River.  Additionally he pleaded guilty to violating the terms of his parole stemming from a New York racketeering case.

Stango is expected to be behind bars well into his 80’s.
