10 AGs Want Online Poker Banned

Ten US state Attorney Generals have signed onto a letter asking that online poker be banned.

Among the AGs that are in support of online poker prohibition is Adam Laxalt, Attorney General of Nevada.  His state is one of only three that has already legalized Web poker within its own borders, the others being New Jersey and Delaware.

Casino magnate and GOP mega donor Sheldon Adelson has been pushing legislation that would prevent the activity.  Some speculate that his lukewarm support and money donations to the campaign of President-Elect Donald Trump - albiet late and limited - along with a Republican majority in both the House and Senate could help push a measure through.

But not all Republicans are on board.  Nevada Republican Governor Brian Sandoval and Nevada Gaming Control Board Chairman A.G. Burnett both oppose Laxalt's position.  Previous incarnations of the bill in Congress have failed to muster up enough support.

The letter in question, dated November 17, was sent to President-Elect Trump, Vice President-Elect Mike Pence.  Other Attorney Generals who signed on represented the following states: Louisiana, Michigan, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Texas and Utah.
