Poker Pro Phil Hellmuth Rates Clinton vs. Trump Debate Performance
  • All time WSOP bracelet holder uncharacteristically quiet this election cycle until now

  • The Donald gets an “ace” from Hellmuth, who "won in the sense in that he looked presidential"
  • Trump “played the outsider card really well”

World Series of Poker record bracelet holder Phil Hellmuth has offered his opinion on Monday night’s heated US Presidential Debate between GOP nominee Donald Trump and Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton.

The self-proclaimed “Poker Brat” has been uncharacteristically quiet throughout this election cycle unlike a number of his colleagues, the likes of Daniel Negreanu (a Hillary supporter), Mike Matusow (a Trump supporter) and the legendary life long Republican Doyle Brunson (a #NeverHillary advocate but no fan of Trump either).

Media pundits have mostly declared Clinton the outright winner.  Even Matusow, who has had nothing good to say about Clinton, admitted she probably won.

But Hellmuth praised both candidates.

"Hillary looked very presidential. I think she did a great job -- attacking was smart for her. I think she highlighted Trump's lack of experience and the temperament stuff was effective. She did a really good job of attacking those two things."

He has graded Clinton’s performance as “A”.

As for Trump, Hellmuth did award the real estate magnate an “ace”: "Trump won in the sense in that he looked presidential and he didn't have to, and he didn't blow himself out of the water and he could have." and also that, "he played the outsider card really well".

Hellmuth actually suggested that Trump would have served himself well by using the “Crooked Hillary” descriptor as “it has served him well” up to this point

The poker pro is in the camp that believes Trump will come after Clinton much harder in the next Debate, which is a Town Hall format that will be moderated by CNN's Anderson Cooper.

"I believe that Trump is going to attack her much more heavily in the next debate."
