The most recent game, played in 2013, had Cincinnati winning by 49-9 at home.  The Bengals were a -6 home favorite in that game.  They would have been a -6.5 to -7 home point favorite in this one if playing at home.  As such, the quality of both teams is being viewed by oddsmakers as relatively similar to their last matchup in 2013.

80 percent of the betting action is on Cincinnati and it appears as if the oddsmakers are reluctant to cross the dreaded number 3.  It’s interesting to note that nearly 90 percent of the money line is going New York’s way with a payout potential of $12.50 for every $10 bet.

The home team is 6-1 Against The Spread in their last 7 meetings spanning more than a decade while the Bengals have gone 8-0 ATS in their last 8 road games overall.

Matt Forte is the one to watch this season in New York with Ryan Fitzpatrick confirmed as starting quarterback after some initial apprehensions.

ESPN.com’s Rich Cimini writes of Forte:

Not only to do they expect him to replace leading rusher Chris Ivory, who ran for 1,070 yards, but they plan to make Forte a major factor in the passing game.

They lose a physical element without Ivory, a punishing between-the-tackles runner, but they gain versatility. In chess terms, Forte is like a rook or bishop because he can move quickly around the board. In theory, it should make the offense more unpredictable.

The Bengals come into this season and this game built to win a championship with a few added components via the Draft.  Just as long as they can stay healthy.

Therein lies the problem as Cincinnati enters this game a bit banged up.  Most positions had plenty of depth however.

Tight end Tyler Eifert is recovering from an ankle injury with a likely return date as early as Week 4.

Other injuries were suffered by lineman Cedric Ogbuehi and Jake Fisher and special teams stalwart Cedric Peerma.

The Jets odds of winning the Super Bowl were at 65-1 while they were favored to win 7.5 regular season games.

The Bengals odds of winning the 2017 Super Bowl were much shorter at 8-1 with 9.5 or more regular season games expected to be won.

DR Congo has 1 point and likely needs a win to have a realistic shot at advancing as a third-place team. Uzbekistan has 0 points and must win to stay alive. A draw probably eliminates Uzbekistan and likely does very little for DR Congo.
