The NFL pre-season is entering its last week, and the Washington Redskins game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers has been moved from its previously scheduled date of Thursday September 1st to Wednesday August 31st. The move is due to possible extreme weather conditions from Tropical Depression Nine, which is expected to affect the Tampa Bay area on Thursday.

This will be a fairly even match-up as both teams have won 2 games and lost 1 during the pre-season, the biggest differential are the actual PF and PA for each of these teams, Washington has a PF of 60 while Tampa Bayís is 66, while the Points Against for the Redskins currently stand at 57 vs. 51 for the Buccaneers.

An in-depth look at each teamsí stats will paint a clearer picture, of who is the likely winner of this game and what they need to do to make that happen. At first glance the teamsí offensive line up seem to be an even match, letís start with total passing yards, although close the Skins trail the Bucs 353.8 to 375.9 a difference of almost 6%. Now the interesting thing is the Skins are better at passing yards than the Bucs but they get crushed on rushing yards. On average Washington scores more points per game, they also hold on to the ball longer and have a better 3rd down conversion average than the Buccaneers.

The Buccaneers fair better defensively though, they only allowed 340.4 total yards versus 380.6 from the Skins, they also allowed less passing yards 240.0 to 258.0 and the total rush yards allowed stand at 100.4 to 122.6. But here is where the picture gets a little blurry; although the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have more points in favor they also allow more points against on average per game. But they are very successful at stopping 3rd down conversions, which could hurt the Redskins.

In order for the Redskins to win this game their offense needs to perform above average, they need to protect their QB and in turn their QB needs to complete his passing plays in order to by-pass the Tampa Bay defense. If they are unable to do this, I donít see how they could possibly beat the Buccaneers because it is clear that a running game strategy wonít work in this game.

Bottom line, my NFL football betting prediction is the Redskins will prevail in this game but it will be close. Washington needs this win, after all they have a lot to prove to their critics going into the regular season.

DR Congo has 1 point and likely needs a win to have a realistic shot at advancing as a third-place team. Uzbekistan has 0 points and must win to stay alive. A draw probably eliminates Uzbekistan and likely does very little for DR Congo.
