Those betting at the state’s four casinos, seven racinos and the Ohio Lottery have lost $9.7 billion over the past four years according to a report filed by the Columbus Dispatch.

Nearly $62.9 billion was bet and $53.3 billion was won from 2012 to 2015.

But the paper claims this money was not lost in vain.

Most of the money has since been used to provide a financial boost to Ohio schools, cities and counties.

The lottery sent more than $1 billion this year alone to public education, the Dispatch observed.
