Flying Private

What are the chances of Flying Private winning the 2009 Kentucky Derby?  Not very good in the eyes of oddsmakers.  But alas, long shots have won the Kentucky Derby.   All we have to do is look back to 2005.  That's when a 50/1 long shot named Giacomo shocked the world with his Kentucky Derby victory.

But poor Flying Private isn't getting much love.

From Newsday:

"(Trainer D. Wayne) Lukas, who used to be Mr. Derby, sends out a colt who after 10 starts remains eligible for a non-winners-of-1 allowance. Lukas has no chance to win his fifth Derby with this guy."

Lukas is relying on his experience to prepare Flying Private against a field that includes seven horses conditioned by six first-time trainers, writes C.L. Brown of the Courier Journal. Ultimately, Lukas said, the horses will decide the race. But all things being equal, he likes his chances.

"There's a lot of mistakes being made out here this week, in my opinion," Lukas said. "I can see things happening that I wouldn't do."

We here at Gambling911.com don't exactly like Flying Private's chances, but for a payout of $10,000 on a $100 bet, why not?

Other +10000 long shots included Mine That Bird and Nowhere to Hide.
