Former House Leader Newt Gingrich has become the new favorite to be selected as presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump’s Vice Presidential running mate this July 4 afternoon.
Gingrich was coming in at 3-1 odds. He knocked Jeff Sessions, the junior United States Senator from Alabama, out of the top spot on Monday. Sessions was now coming in at 4-1 while New Jersey Governor Chris Christie was listed at 5-1 odds.
The Gingrich odds are a little surprising considering the former House Leader continues to be critical of Trump.
"Everything the Clinton campaign is doing to suppress Trump will, in the short run, suppress Trump — because he's not trying," Gingrich said in reference to presumptive Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton’s aggressive efforts in recent weeks to come directly after the New York real estate mogul.
Indiana Governor Mike Pense was actually named by Trump on Monday morning but still had long odds at 8-1.
