The field for the 135th running of the Kentucky Derby Saturday, to be run on May 2, 2009 at Churchill Downs, is limited to 20 horses.  Oddsmakers at Bookmaker.com have listed more than 20 horses and there is a good chance that more than 20 will be entered.  If this is the case, preference will be given to entrants based on earnings in graded stakes races, according to Bloodhorse.com.

The horse with the highest graded earnings is Regal Ransom, yet his odds were listed at +2000 for a payout potential of $2000 on every $100 bet.  Regal Ransom's graded earnings were just over $1.2 million through this week.

Pioneer of the Nile had the next best earnings at $1.2 million.

Square Eddie had earnings over $800,000.

I Want Revenge had earning over $774,000.  This was the early favorite to win the 2009 Kentucky Derby at Bookmaker.com.
