You can bet on Gun Runner to win the 2016 Kentucky Derby at 10-1 odds and 12-1 at some online racebooks.
Gun Runner comes into this race with a tremendous edge based on the post position draw alone. The number five post position has won in nine Kentucky Derby races, three since 1999. This makes the post position among the more enticing.
Additionally, Gun Runner should have little problem taking to the dirt of Churchill Downs. He’s also considered star trainer Steve Asmussen’s star horse.
He has the tactical speed to win but the last horse to exit the Louisiana Derby and go on to win at Churchill Downs was Funny Cide, in 2003. Gun Runner’s Brisnet Speed Rating has also dropped slightly since his last race.
