New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman issued a cease-and-desist order Tuesday, asserting that both FanDuel and rival DraftKings are leaders in a “multibillion-dollar scheme intended to evade the law and fleece sports fans across the country.”

FanDuel also announced it will be joining a lawsuit with DraftKings against the New York Attorney General’s office.

FanDuel is based out of Manhattan.  The company posted this notice on its website:  “It is with great disappointment that we will begin the process of limiting access to users located in New York while we pursue the opportunity to be heard in court.”

It has been reported that as many as 500,000 New York customers play on Daily Fantasy Sports sites.

Both FanDuel and DraftKings mounted a protest in front of Schneiderman’s office on Friday.
