San Jose, Costa Rica – Cards are flying at the Punta Cana Poker Classic as players in Day 2 look to stack their chips to the final table on Sunday.

With $185,615 earmarked for first place, and with the luxury of re-entries now absent from the tournament, everyone on the tournament floor is extremely focused. A good number of pros took part in Day 1A and Day 1B of the Punta Cana Poker Classic Main Event you could see names like Faraz Jaka, Ari Engel and Evan Jarvis amongst others.

Day 2 kicks off with a final prize pool of $824,985, fed through 567 entries and re-entries on Day 1A and 1B. The total prize pool eclipses the $500,000 that was guaranteed at the start of the tournament by nearly $325,000. The first place winner will earn $185,615 and bragging rights as the 6th Punta Cana Poker Classic Main Event champion.

A number of notable pros took part in the first two flights of the Punta Cana Poker Classic Main Event, but not returning on Day 2 is Faraz Jaka, the world poker champion who made headlines in CNN’s Homeless Millionaire piece. However last year’s Main Event Champion, Ari Engel, returns to the tables with 40,000 in chips, well behind chip leader Dragan Pesic, who sits with 248,000 chips.

The Punta Cana Poker Classic continues to see return players, plus those who have conquered other Latin Poker Series events. Carter Gill, who won the $1 Million guaranteed LPS event in Panama back in 2014, is still in contention on Day 2. Poker pro Aaron Mermelstein enters Day 2 with 34,500 chips.
