Vote on Internet Gambling, Daily Fantasy Sports Cancelled in PA

The Pennsylvania Gaming Oversight Committee cancelled a scheduled meeting for Wednesday to discuss the pros and cons of online gambling and Daily Fantasy Sports in the state.

A vote on the gambling bills were put off amid budget negotiations.

House Gaming Oversight Committee Chairman John Payne said Wednesday that Republican majority leaders asked him to postpone it at this stage in those negotiations.

State Rep. George Dunbar, R–Westmoreland County, has amended a previous version of House Bill 1197, to specifically address daily fantasy sports.

Dunbar believes that partnership with the state will provide sites like DraftKings and FanDuel to build customer and industry analysts confidence back following allegations of insider trading and collusion, something DraftKings legal counsel vehemently denied on Monday following a thorough investigation of their own.

The drawback here is that Pennsylvania seeks 14% in taxes from said companies.

Numerous proposals are coming up for vote, including legalizing Internet gambling or video poker terminals at bars, allowing slot machines at off-tracking betting parlors or international airports, and regulating and taxing daily fantasy sports and sports betting.
