Some Books Still Got Slaughtered With Patriots 7-Point Win

While bookies for the most part avoided a catastrophe to open the 2015 regular NFL season, the New England Patriots 7-point victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers wasn’t necessarily the best outcome.

With Tom Brady initially suspended, books had to move the line from New England -7 to -3.  Two weeks ago it was announced that a judge had overruled the suspension of Brady, who the league accused of having a role in the deflation of footballs last season, forcing bookmakers to move the line back to -7.

This situation had bookies fearing a potential middling opportunity.  Gamblers could have wagered on New England to win by more than three points, which they did.  With the number back up to +7, gamblers were also provided with an opportunity to bet Pittsburgh.  A Patriots win by 4 to 6 points would have resulted in both wagers being winners.

But some books earlier in the season rose the line to -7.5.  Most books did push with the Pats win.

Bettors were also fuming with New England winning in double digits right up to the final seconds.  Ouch.
