Since the €10k High Roller first appeared on the EPT Barcelona schedule in Season 7, its popularity has been growing every single year.
Inevitably, the record books had to be re-written yet again this season with a 506-entry field. This comprised 401 unique players and 105 re-entries (setting a new record for both).
Such a large field obviously brings with it a massive prize pool and 71 players will share the €4,908,200 in payouts. The champion will eventually bank €947,300 along with the coveted title.
While 216 players survived for Day 2, another 27 joined the competition this morning just before the end of registration. The 18 re-entries included Team PokerStars Pros Eugene Katchalov and Bertrand 'ElkY' Grospellier as well as 2013 WSOP Main Event champ Ryan Riess, Aussie Milions winner Ami Barer and EPT2 London champion Mark Teltscher, who came second in the €25k High Roller earlier this week. Nine players showed up for the first time this morning to buy in directly to Day 2. Daniel Dvoress was among them, the Canadian registered after an early exit from Day 5 of the EPT Main Event.
Dvoress's compatriot Chan Ping San led the field after Day 1, bagging 367,500. Day 2 also featured several other Team PokerStars Pros - Jason Mercier, Leo Fernandez, Vanessa Selbst, George Danzer along with Team Online's Isaac Haxton and Marc-Andre Ladouceur. PokerStars SportStar Fatima Moreira de Melo also survived. The three-time Olympic medallst won her seat via a live satellite at Casino Barcelona, along with 52 other players.
Last season, Ihar Soika from Belarus beat a record-breaking 393-entry field for €747,200 with Team PokerStars Pro Jason Mercier runner-up for €476,400.
