Can Rake Free Work in Daily Fantasy Sports? CBS Sportsline Thinks So

CBS Sportsline introduced its Daily Fantasy Sports platform this past week with a rake free concept that is sure to give industry leaders DraftKings and FanDuel and run for their money.

CBS’ DFS Director Grant Griffin tweeted this week that they were not planning on featuring rake any time soon although many believe the new NFL season will require the media conglomerate to change its model.

“No rake” or “rake free” essentially means the Daily Fantasy Sports site – in this case CBS – is not taking any money from you to pump into their own platform.  Smaller sites like FantasyUp have offered rake free but are reportedly slow paying in recent weeks (who would have thunk it?).

Similar sites that offered rake-free online poker concepts have met with an untimely demise (ahem, World Sports Exchange quickly comes to mind).

Sites like CBS Sports have adapted a strategy similar to McDonald’s Dollar Menu.  The whole idea is to steal business away from competitors while achieving a profit is close to impossible.
