Exaggerator, the second place finisher at this year's Kentucky Derby, won the Santa Anita Derby in the slop.

It wasn't just that he won that race, he did so convincingly by 6 1/4-lengths and seemingly relished the muddy track.

“He was the fourth horse that I rode in the mud and the others felt like they had ice skates on. Exaggerator felt like he had track shoes on. He really liked the going and that was part of his incredible effort. He enjoyed the mud,” Jockey Kent Desormeaux said after that victory.

For the record, Kentucky Derby winner Nyquist did win the Florida Derby on a track that was less than ideal due to earlier rains.

But it is Exaggerator that may actually be relegated as the favorite should weather play a significant role on Saturday.
