Asher Conniff of Brooklyn, New York, accidentally registered for a big-bucks Atlantic City poker tournament, and the rest is history.  He walked away the winner and pocketed a cool $973,000.

The 25-year-old tells the New York Daily News he was supposed to be attending a family vacation with his mom last week but instead had to play in the tournament.

“She wasn’t too upset,” said Conniff after his triumph at the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa. “She was happy I was going to play and she’s super-ecstatic now.”

Conniff mistakenly registered for a $1,600 satellite preliminary round of the $15,000 live main event that started the day after winning a $203,000 jackpot on April 20 in the opening event of the Borgata’s Spring Poker Open.  Upon realizing his mistake, the casino advised he was out of luck.

Until this win, Conniff had previously amassed just under $200,000 on the live poker circuit.
