It's official. Big Sunday weekly tournaments are back in North America. Leading U.S. facing online poker site, Americas Cardroom today announced that this week's Sunday Special tournament has hit $110,000. The Sunday Special poker tournament is now the biggest weekly Sunday major offered by any of the U.S. facing sites.

The Sunday Special

"Big prize pool, online multi-table tournaments have been missing the last couple years for North American players, but we've changed the game for the better," stated Americas Cardroom spokesperson Michael Harris. "The glory days of weekly life-changing tournament scores and Million Dollar guaranteed prize pools are officially back."

Launched at the start of 2015, the Sunday Special initially featured a prize pool of $25,000. The weekly prize pool increases by $5,000 every week, as long as the guarantee is met. Just 17 weeks after launching the tournament, the prize pool has grown by $85,000 to an impressive $110,000.

Harris notes that there's no sign of the Sunday Special slowing down. The prize pool continues to grow by $5,000 a week, unless it stops covering. When the tournament features an overlay, the prize pool will be frozen the following week. Should the tournament fail to cover again, it will decrease by $5,000 where it will sit as the permanent Sunday major on the tournament schedule.

But given Americas Cardroom's constantly growing poker community, there's no sign of that happening anytime soon. The online poker room is the No. 2 ranked U.S. poker site in terms of traffic, right behind top-ranked Bovada.

"Our traffic ranking could very well change soon," commented Harris. "Last week, the Sunday Special grew to $105,000, marking a huge milestone for Americas Cardroom players. The $105,000 offered was officially the biggest weekly Sunday guaranteed tournament for North American players, edging out Bovada's weekly guarantee. We look forward to reporting when our weekly guarantee is double the competition."

A few simple calculations reveal that could happen sooner than later. Should the prize pool of the Sunday Special increase by $5,000 every week, it could grow to $285,000 by year's end.

But Americas Cardroom players don’t have to wait until then to realize a prize pool of that magnitude. This August, Americas Cardroom is hosting the next Million Dollar Sunday, a $1,000,000 guaranteed tournament with a first place prize of $200,000.

$150,000 Freebuy Super Series

Starting May 8th, the online poker site hosts a $150,000 guaranteed Freebuy Super Series. The series features tournaments that are free to enter and offer rebuys and add-ons. The Freebuy Super Series will likely funnel more and more players to the Americas Cardroom community, ultimately pushing up the Sunday Special guarantee even higher.
