It may be the single most wagered on Super Bowl prop bet out there but Gambling911.com is here to tell you there is absolutely zero strategy when it comes to betting on the Super Bowl coin toss....with the exception of maybe finding the best price.

Historically, this bet is what one might expect – a 50/50 chance gamble.  No skill is involved at all.

Statisticians may say otherwise.

For example, both Super Bowls the Seahawks have played in, the coin has landed on tails.  Three of the last four Super Bowls the Patriots have played in have also featured a coin that landed on tails.

Furthermore, since 1998 there have been two patterns in which four consecutive Super Bowls resulted in tails.  Only once did tails show up alone in between Super Bowls where the coin landed on heads.  Last year’s Super Bowl resulted in tails.

Oh and here's another interesting little factoid.  The Patriots have only won the coin toss in four of their last five Super Bowl appearances (having won it in their last Super Bowl).  Most books offer the team that picks it correctly as a bet along with whether the winning team wins the actual game.

Ed Salmons of The Westgate told ESPN.com his sportsbook always needs tails, as significantly more money is bet on heads.  This might explain why Boyds Gaming has tails slightly better priced at -104 compared to heads at -106.
